Data Privacy Week

Data Privacy Week takes place January 26-30, 2026, and highlights the impact of technology on our privacy rights and underscores the importance of valuing and protecting personal information.

We all have a role to play in protecting our personal information; however, sometimes balancing privacy and convenience can be tricky. Below are some quick tips to follow to help protect your data privacy:

  1. Know what you can control
Some data sharing is unavoidable. Many apps and services request access to personal data (location, contacts, photos, etc.) and often require some data to function (ie, navigation apps). Understand these limits so you can focus on what you can control. Think carefully before clicking “Allow” on any data request and deny permissions that don’t make sense.

  2. Adjust settings to match your comfort level
For every app, account, or device, check the privacy and security settings. These should be easy to find in the Settings section and should only take a few moments to change. Set them to your comfort level for personal information sharing.

  3. Use multi-factor authentication
Multi-factor authentication means that you need more than one identifying factor to gain access to an account. Common options for multi-factor authentication include receiving an SMS text message, a verification PIN, or a phone call on your mobile device.

We take data privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information. For more details related to our privacy practices, please review our Privacy Statement. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact a member of our team.

If you would like to learn more about protecting your personal information, please visit the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
